4 ways to express your love for Mother Nature, this Mothers Day!

It is said that mothers are sent to earth because God cannot be present everywhere. Graceful giving, unconditional loving & non-judgemental care are synonyms of a mother. Just like every mother nurtures the kid and the whole family, mother nature does it too. It has been nurturing every species including humans, animals, birds and many more for years.

But, what have we done?

Instead of expressing gratitude for the resources, we have filled this earth with lots of plastic. Every natural space is contaminated by the presence of plastic. Our water bodies are filled with plastic waste and killing marine lives. Natural habitats are in danger because of our careless disposal. Landfills are increasing day by day resulting in air, water & soil pollution.

Amidst this alarming situation, awenest would like to bring forward some simple yet powerful ways in which we can show our love for Mother Nature, this mothers day.

Read on to find out…

Connect with mother nature

Do you clean your dustbin every day and empty the waste?

I am sure the answer is YES! Everybody wants their home to be clean and fresh. However, when we clean our homes, we are sending out the garbage to nature. The unnecessary plastic consumed ends up in the landfills and comes back to us in the form of pollution.

Other than harming us, it causes detrimental impacts on the environment & makes it dirty. Take a walk around your city and we can assure you that you will definitely find some pieces of plastic here and there. Why does this happen?

This happens, because we don’t feel connected to mother nature. On the other hand, in your home, you will never find trash laying around. Why? It’s your home and you want it to be clean, pleasant and fresh.

The emotion that connects you with your home is forgotten when it comes to mother nature. We have lost that connection and thus fail to take responsibility for reducing plastic usage & conscious disposal.

Living in concrete jungles has disrupted the relationship of humans with mother nature. To make sure that we don’t harm her, we need to develop a deeper bond with her. Here are some of the ways through which you can rebuild the damaged bond with mother nature -

  • Birdwatching

  • Stargazing

  • Home gardening

  • Trekking

  • Going to gardens for a walk

  • Cherishing the beauty of unique flowers

  • Walking barefoot on the grass

You can easily squeeze any or all of these activities into your work routine or on the weekends. Some of them might seem extremely simple, however, when you do it consistently you will understand their impact. This is the first and the most important step in loving mother earth. Re-membering the bond that we share by connecting with her through these simple activities.

Volunteer to help mother nature

No matter how much we try to avoid it, the fight against climate change, plastic disasters & increasing pollution will need collective action. Holding the government responsible for not disposing of the plastics properly will not reverse the harm caused.

If you are wondering about what you can do individually, then here are some options. First and the foremost thing is to adopt a sustainable lifestyle with awenest, which generates negligible or zero plastic. Secondly, you can join NGOs and non-profit organizations that are extending their labour of love towards mother earth.

There are many NGOs, groups and conscious citizens actively engaged in the activity of plogging, and cleaning plastic from the water bodies, gardens, and other similar areas. Contributing your time on weekends to such noble causes can be a great gift to mother earth.

Volunteering at such NGOs will eventually bring a change in your habits as well. Observing the harm caused to the environment in the real world, you will be inspired to shift to a sustainable way of living. Volunteering is the best way to give back to mother nature in your free time.

Don’t just plant a tree, look after it too!

People plant trees, now and then. Birthdays, anniversaries, inaugurations of shops, death anniversaries and many other occasions are remembered by planting a tree. Many plantation drives are also conducted by the government to raise awareness and make a difference. One of the plantation drives showed a result of a 50-60% survival rate only, whereas some of them showed more too.

The survival rate of the trees depends upon how well the care has been taken. So, instead of focusing on planting more trees, make sure to take care of the trees that are already planted around you. Step out of your house and have a look at the trees near your gate. It is perfectly okay if you adopt one of those trees or a plant and take care of them.

However, if you choose to grow your plant in your garden or balcony, make sure to take utmost care. The survival of the plant is more important than the number of plants grown. A single flourishing plant will give you more happiness than 5 hardly surviving plants in your garden. Start small and learn the caring techniques to avoid your plants from dying.

Go paperless

Whether it is about your visiting card, bank statement, invoice or school report card, try to go paperless to the extent possible. Every document is now available online and can easily be shared with anyone you wish. Avoid printing documents that can also be used in their digital form. Paper accounts for 26% of total waste at landfills. No meaning in printing all the documents when eventually they are going to end up in the landfills, right?

Show your love to mother nature by going digital whenever possible. It will not only reduce the landfills but also save the forests. Along with excessive use of trees, water and electricity are equally wasted on producing the paper that is eventually going to end up in the landfills. This whole process reduces the green area and increases the greenhouse gases in the environment.

So, next time someone asks for a hard copy, share the link to this blog! Also, if you find it hard to avoid using paper, try to use recycled paper and don’t feel guilty about causing any harm.

it’s time to give…

Just like a mother loves her child irrespective of their nature, we have been loved by the earth in the same way. However, the relationship has now become one-sided and all we focus is on TAKING what we can. This has not only depleted the resources but also destroyed the whole foundation. Pollution is constantly rising, the climate is acting like never before and humans are ingesting plastic unconsciously.

It’s time to give our care and love to our mother today and every other day!

With awenest, you will be able to find many more ways to express love for your mother on this mother's day with some eco-friendly gifts. This is the best way to make both your mothers happy. You can gift joy to your real mother and when you choose a sustainable gift, mother nature will thank you too.
